From JÖRO’s star to a BYO bistro in Crookes: where to book in Sheffield
South Yorkshire got its first Michelin star this year; these are the eight Sheffield dining rooms worth booking, and what to order in each.

The last course on JÖRO’s £75 tasting menu is a sticky toffee pudding with barrel-aged miso toffee sauce, and since February it has been served under a Michelin star, the first South Yorkshire has had. Sheffield’s other good rooms are spread across the suburbs rather than the centre, from Nether Green to Hillsborough, so plan the taxi as well as the table.
How we chose: the 2026 Michelin Guide and National Restaurant Awards, the Good Food Guide, Exposed’s 2026 reader awards, and each restaurant’s current menu.
Restaurant Elm on Glossop Road is listed there too; it appears in our breakfast piece, because its daytime café is the easier way in.
JÖRO
Luke French cooks and Stacey Sherwood-French runs the room in a converted 19th-century mill at Oughtibridge, about 9 km north-west of the centre, with 11 tables and seven bedrooms. The star came in February 2026, and the National Restaurant Awards put it 13th in the UK this year. Book Menu ÖNE rather than the £140 Menu TWÖ: it runs from a bluefin tuna tartelette to that pudding, and Michelin’s inspectors single out the Vale of Mowbray hogget. Sunday lunch is £55. Rafters
Upstairs in Nether Green, head chef Dan Conlon has cooked here since 2014, and Alistair Myers has owned it outright since 2024. They have spent this year trying to shake off the stiff, formal reputation, Exposed reported in April. Take the six-course menu at £75: smoked eel, aged beef, Wortley Estate lamb and a Sheffield honey dessert, with the £14 cheese course optional. The 26 seats go quickly on Saturdays. Oakbrook Road, Nether Green · six courses £75 · dinner Wed–Sat, lunch Sat · book
Tom Lawson at The Psalter
Seven tables sit at the back of a Psalter Lane hotel, and you choose two to five courses from £45. The four-course menu at £75 is the one to pick, and every menu opens with seasonal snacks and the house bread. It sits on that list with Rafters and Elm. Tables are booked between 6pm and 8pm only. Domo
Order the culurgiones (£23.75), Sardinian potato and pecorino dumplings finished with truffle, in this converted works in Little Kelham. The Good Food Guide calls the cooking “generous, hearty, bold and crowd-pleasing”, and Exposed readers voted it the city’s best restaurant in May. For a cheaper go, the weekday lunch menu is £28.50 for three courses until 5.30pm. The £70 suckling-pig feast needs a group. Cotton Mill Walk, Little Kelham · culurgiones £23.75 · open daily · book
No Name
It’s BYO, with £3 corkage a head, so buy a bottle at Tenaya Wine a few doors along Crookes first. Then order the smoked eel with pearl barley and mature cheddar (£10) and the beef cheek with caramelised cauliflower (£23). On the first Saturday of each month the kitchen runs a six-course blind lunch at £70. Crookes · mains £19–24 · Wed–Sat from 6pm · book
Native
The fish comes from J H Mann, the fishmonger the Mann family founded in 1921 and Christian Szurko has run since 2005; Native opened beside it on Gibraltar Street in 2021. Start with oysters at £5 each and the crab crumpet (£17), then decide whether the half lobster at £40 is your evening. Stag & Eel, the cocktail bar attached, takes the overflow. A £30 a head charge applies to no-shows. Gibraltar Street, Kelham Island · oysters £5 each · book
The Orange Bird
A braai does most of the work on Middlewood Road, and the 8oz Denver steak with pelepele and red chimichurri (£25.50) is the dish to build the meal round. Finish with malva pudding and stout ice cream at £9; the menu helpfully explains it as a better sticky toffee pudding, which sets up a rematch with JÖRO. Hillsborough tram stop is a short walk. Ashoka
Open on Ecclesall Road since 1967, this is the city’s oldest Indian restaurant, and the Kalcutta karai chicken at £14.95 is a fair test of why it has lasted. In August it started serving lunch again for the first time since 1976: a Thursday-to-Sunday brunch called FIGUE, with vada pav, khaman and a “Corner Shop Chaat”. Ecclesall Road · karai chicken £14.95 · FIGUE brunch Thu–Sun 11–2 · book or walk-in
Checked October 2026.
