Help for restaurants
Version 1, in effect from 30 September 2026
For restaurants
I run a restaurant. Can I claim my spot?
Yes. Claim your restaurant in our restaurant portal: search for your place, check the details, make an account and prove it’s yours. Then get your menu right, see what diners say about each dish, and reply to Bites. It’s free while we’re in early access.
It’s early days, so a few things aren’t switched on yet: email (for now, our team confirms new accounts by hand), Google sign-in, and verifying by phone or postcard. The restaurants page has the full list.
Soon, some menus will also be read from restaurants’ own websites by our menu bot. Its page explains what it fetches and how to opt out.
Do I have to use AI to add my menu?
No. You can type your menu in, dish by dish. If you let AI read it, it only makes a draft: you see every line next to where it came from, and nothing goes live until you publish.
What happens to the files I upload?
They go into private storage. We check each file by what’s inside it, redraw images and PDF pages as fresh images (dropping hidden extras and location data), and never show your original to anyone. Originals are deleted a week after you publish or discard the menu, and after 30 days at the most.
I run more than one place. Will the portal cope?
Yes. It’s built for groups: add each location, switch between them, and invite your team with the access they need, from owner and manager down to view-only. For now, an invite is a link you copy and send yourself.
Can a restaurant pay to rank higher, or remove bad reviews?
No, and no. There are no paid rankings, so nobody can buy their way up the map. A restaurant can’t delete a diner’s Bite either, but it can reply, once, in public.
Asked by restaurants.
How many diners use Bucketdish?
Not many yet, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Bucketdish is new. Claiming now means your menu’s right, your photos are up and your replies are in before the diners arrive, not after.
How do you check I run the place?
Two ways today. Add a short tag to your website’s home page and the portal checks it’s there. You’re in straight away, though replies and team invites open after a 14-day check.
Or ask us to verify, and our team checks by hand, using the phone number and website we already hold for your place. That way there’s no 14-day wait. Codes by phone or postcard aren’t switched on yet.
Why hasn’t the portal emailed me?
Email isn’t switched on yet, so the portal can’t send sign-up codes or tell you about new Bites. For now, our team confirms new accounts by hand: keep the page open and it carries on by itself once yours is confirmed. After that, everything waits for you in your To do list.
What does it cost?
Nothing during early access. No card details, nothing to cancel. If that ever changes, you’ll hear it from us first, well before anything’s charged.
One thing that will never be for sale, to you or anyone else: a better place in the rankings, or a Dish of the week.
Can I remove bad reviews?
No, but you can reply. Only the diner can delete their Bite, and nobody can pay us to remove or hide one. You can reply in public, once per Bite, as the restaurant.
If a Bite breaks the rules (it’s abusive, spam, fake, about a different restaurant, or shares someone’s personal details), report it with a reason. Our moderators decide and remove the ones that break the rules, and you see the outcome under Reported by you. A low rating on its own isn’t a reason to report.
Is my restaurant already on Bucketdish?
Quite possibly. Places come from OpenStreetMap, and diners add dishes as they eat them. Soon, some menus will also be read from restaurants’ own websites by our menu bot.
Look yourself up. It’s early days, so if nobody’s logged a dish with you yet, it’ll be quiet. Not there at all? Claim your restaurant and add it: diners see it once you’re verified.
Can I take my menu off Bucketdish instead?
Yes. Our menu bot’s page explains how to stop it reading your website and how to have a menu removed. Dishes diners have already logged stay, because those Bites are theirs.
