Five Sheffield lunches for £12 or less

A chickpea curry steeped for 36 hours and a £5 poutine lead this list of Sheffield meals that cost less than a tasting-menu supplement.

The Raat Walle Cholle at 5Tara on Duke Street is a Punjabi chickpea curry that the kitchen steeps in tea for 36 hours, and it costs £9.50. That’s the bar for this list: a proper plate of food, cooked by someone who cares about it, for less than a round of drinks.

How we chose: Exposed’s 2026 food coverage and each venue’s own current menu, keeping only places that publish their prices.

The food halls cover the rest. Cambridge Street Collective in the centre has more than 20 independent kitchens and serves food from 11am daily; Cutlery Works in Neepsend has the sharper lunch deals and gets an entry below.

5Tara

Beyond the cholle, the menu names the Amul desi butter paneer (£11.50) as its most popular curry, and the Bombay vada pav, a potato-patty “breakfast burger” from Mumbai, is £6.99. The restaurant says it gives 10% of its monthly sales to farmers’ welfare in India. Duke Street, Park Hill · cholle £9.50 · book or walk-in

OMOMO Korean Street Food

Lesley So opened OMOMO on Division Street in January; the name is Korean slang for “oh my gosh”. Go at lunch for the bibimbap bowl at £10, or share Korean tapas at £6.95 a plate, with kimchi pancakes and army stew on the same list. Division Street · bibimbap lunch £10 · walk-in

Assaje

Dani bakes the focaccia and runs the café with his wife, Chiara, on Glossop Road. Exposed called it Sheffield’s favourite focaccia in August. A filled slab costs £7 or £8, built to your order or as one of the Sicilian combinations, and there are cannoli to take away. Glossop Road, Broomhall · focaccia sandwiches £7–8 · walk-in

Boston Arms

Wednesday is poutine night at this Woodseats micropub: Gravy Train’s classic Montreal poutine of fries, squeaky cheese curds and gravy is £5 from 5pm to 9pm, with vegan and gluten-free versions and 20% off the rest of the food. A new cellar-cooling system means cask is back on, the local beer branch reported in September. Chesterfield Road, Woodseats · poutine £5 · Wed 5–9pm · walk-in

Cutlery Works

Thirteen kitchens share a converted cutlery factory, and the two deals worth timing a visit around are CJ’s Brunch Club’s £5 lunch, every day, and Dodo Chicken’s 12 wings for £12 on the first Wednesday of each month. Viet Da Nang does bánh mì and Flames of Deccan does dosas if you want to spend a little more. Food runs until 9pm most nights and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Neepsend Lane · lunch deals £5 · open daily · walk-in
