The Barras on a Saturday, and Glasgow’s other markets worth a morning
The Barras has traded in the East End since 1921, and this guide says what to eat there and at the city’s weekend food markets.

Start at the Barras with birria tacos from Alma Mexicana, then go and find the £5 fish and chips. The market has traded on the Gallowgate since 1921, and its street food now runs every weekend. The city’s other food markets are mostly Saturday affairs, and all of them are free to walk into.
How we chose: Glasgow’s regular food markets trading in October 2026, with traders named on each market’s own listings or a 2026 guide.
The Barras
The Barras opens every Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm, a 20-minute walk from Queen Street or Central station. Inside, Monster Munchies sells fish and chips for £5, which Visit Glasgow’s May guide calls one of the cheapest in the city. Haggis Gu Leor turns haggis into bon bons, burgers and “nachos”, Josie Pops cooks Filipino lumpia and pork adobo, and Danny’s Donuts has rolled its doughnuts in sugar for more than 50 years, with chocolate sauce if you ask. For coffee, Thomson’s has roasted in Glasgow since 1841 and runs a coffee shop by the market. Afterwards, Tennent’s, Drygate and WEST make a brewery triangle within walking distance. Gallowgate, East End · fish and chips £5 · Sat–Sun 10am–4pm · free entry
The Dockyard Social
Bring the children here. The Kelvinhaugh warehouse fills with street-food traders every weekend, Smashed for burgers and Orathai for Thai among them, and its autumn calendar is built around families: a “Kids Eat Free” day on 10 October and Santa’s Grotto from 28 November to 20 December. Buses 77 and 38E stop nearby, and Exhibition Centre station is 0.6 miles away. Haugh Road, Kelvinhaugh · free entry · weekends, Sat noon–11pm · walk-in
The Rail Yard
Every Saturday from 10am to 3pm, more than 30 traders set up in the old railway yard at Kelvinbridge, beside Kelvingrove Park, with live music from noon to 2pm. Lupo’s focaccia sandwiches are the lunch, The Garden Shed does gluten-free food, and Uplands Roast tops its hot chocolate with cream and toasted marshmallows. Kelvinbridge, West End · free entry · Saturdays 10am–3pm
Partick Farmers’ Market
Over 40 Scottish producers fill Mansfield Park on Hyndland Street on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, 10am to 2pm, with samples to try and face painting for children. The next dates are 10 and 24 October, 14 and 28 November and 12 December. On the first and third Saturdays, a sister market sets up in Shawlands Civic Square on the Southside. Mansfield Park, Partick · free entry · 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 10am–2pm
